What STAR means
A higher standard, set by the Bureau of Automotive Repair.
The DMV directs a share of vehicles to STAR stations each year — stations monitored more closely by the Bureau of Automotive Repair and held to higher performance standards. Being selected doesn’t mean anything is wrong with your car; it’s simply where the DMV wants the inspection done.
A STAR-certified station can issue a certificate of compliance to a DMV-directed vehicle. A non-STAR station can’t. As a STAR station, we can certify both DMV-directed vehicles and ordinary registration-renewal smog checks.
